ReadKit App Reviews

A very nice Newsreader

It would be perfect for me if it supports selfoss… :)

Old Reader

I purchased this years ago, but use Reeder3 instead because of The Old Reader support. When Google Reader was supported, I loved this application. If this ever picks up support for The Old Reader, this will be my “go-to” rss solution again.

v2.5 is great

Finally runs smoothly, UI is great. Must have RSS app.

Still keeps chugging along

Below is my original review, which I still think is valid. The app hasn’t had an update in about two years, but I still am able to use it daily to read news (from a feedly feed) and send articles to Instapaper and other sharing services. I could look for a new reader app but this keeps working without a hitch for me, so why change what ain’t broke? =========== Original review: I’ve been very happy with ReadKit since I bought it. Here are the things that have stood out at me as being especially good: * Instapaper and Readability integration are baked in, so you can easily pull the full text of an article from feeds that only offer an excerpt. * Good support of pinboard.in * Very nice themes * Good keyboard shortcuts * Uncluttered, easy to use interface * Good feedly support If you’re looking for an elegant, full-featured RSS reader that gets out of the way and lets you read your news with an absolute minimum of hassles, ReadKit is the best I’ve found.

Pretty Decent

Update 2: This app hasn’t been updated in some time and is crashing constantly on semi-large articles. The developer has apparently abandonend this app so be cautious if considerating buying it. Update: Developer never responds to support requests. The app is currently unable to save any of its settings. Changing the rating until I hear back. One of the better RSS clients available on the Mac App Store. It’s not as smooth as Reeder but it’s a great replacement/alternative. Updates can sometimes be slow and if the app is left running for a long time, the read status and the entire left-side list get out of sync. These are small polish issues, so besides these, it’s a decent app.

Excellent app, rock solid

I’ve never had ReadKit crash on me. I’ve tried so many RSS readers, it’s ridiculous. I love ReadKit’s ability to either use Feedly (among others) or load RSS feeds directly. This way, I use feeds via Feedly for things that I read on the Mac or iPhone, and use direct RSS feeds for the ones that I know I’ll always read on the Mac only, e.g. photography blogs.

Wonderful app, but appears abandoned

Are you going to fix the app to move from Reedability? Reedability no longer works and there is a simple fix, but it looks like these guys are alseep at the wheel. If you fix it I will change my rating.

Good reader

Purchased in 2013 and it’s still getting maintenance updates. Works well for me.

I guess it’s OK if you aren’t a power user. No access to Apple or 3rd Party extensions.

Be prepared for two steps everytime you want to share something outside of the most basic. Want to send to omnifocus? must open in a browser first. want to e-mail the article? nope. only links can be shared. It is inexplicable that there is NO access to third pary extensions or even Apple extensions. So you won’t be sharing articles to Notes, 2do, DayOne, Dropbox, OneNote, etc. even though these extensions are sitting right in your mac ready to be used. It’s a shame that in the year 2017, we still have only two RSS readers that barely offer any power user options. This one and the unsupported Reeder. Every RSS reader designer should be forced to study Newsrack, which in 2011 was 10x as powerful as both Readkit and Reeder. If you want five stars, it’s very simple: Quit locking down your share services and at least include the use of apple and third party extensions!

Repeatedly Crashes

I use Readkit to access Feedbin and when it works, it works really well - the mercury web parser is arguably better than Readability in that it can extract the entire page feed. However it repeadtedly and annoyingly crashes on every launch… Hoping this gets fixed

Crashes

Crashes a lot after update. I only use RSS functionality.

Crash

App crashes after recent update. Doesn’t stay open long enough to read an article.

Excellent RSS reader

Now that the problems with Feedbin have been resolved, this is an excellent RSS reader. The Mercury parser is very fast. I held back on a 5th star because on my 5K iMac, the article list font isn’t quite large enough at its maximum setting.

Love it

Just when I give up hope and switch to Reeder, ReadKit comes back to life! I thought development was dead, because there hasn’t been updates in ages and the dev doesn’t respond to emails. They finally released an update and replaced Readability and seemingly fixed the freezing/crashing issues I’ve been expieriencing for months! Back to being my favorite RSS reader!!

Very glad it’s still around

Two reasons I keep coming back to Readkit: 1) the order of folders and items within folders can be changed by drag and drop, and 2) keyboard shortcuts work on contextual menu items. Great to see the new Mercury service- it works much better than Readability did.

Used this for years

I’ll echo the praise for keeping this up to date after a long hiatus (though it never stopped working for me). My favorite features are the extensive support for single-key shortcuts/navigation and (essential for me) Pinboard tag auto-complete.

Hasn’t worked in years!

I really loved this app until about 4 or so years ago when the developers stopped updating its functionality and Readkit stopped opening altogether. Even across two high-powered iMacs and a brand new update, Readkit STILL doesnt open. So, when I found NewsBlur, an RSS feed service with a reader that gets updated often, I havent looked back.

I am a big fan of Readkit

So glad Readkit’s continuing to be updated. The new UI is good, and the app continues to be very reliable. Also the only one I know of where you can drag and drop articles between different services—from RSS to Pinboard or Instapaper, for example. I hope the developer will include native Tiny Tiny RSS integration (not just through Fever) and poll users for other services we’d like integrated. Also crossing my fingers for an iOS version

Great app, but buggy after the update

I’ve used this app for quite a while, and it has worked very well for me. Unfortunately, the Share option is now quite buggy when clicking on it. It seems to just want to offer Pocket, or nothing at all. I’ve put up shortcuts which helps a bit, but needs to be addressed as well.

Where did the Sharing Icons go???

Upgraded to the new version and the icons for all my sharing services (Pocket, Evernote, etc) are gone. All I have now are Archive, Star, Close, Mercury Parser and the Share sheet (which only has Twitter, Copy Link, and Open in Chrome). I verified that all the sharing services are enabled in Preferences. Please correct
