Stop working with Feedly

This program used to work well as a replacement after the death of Reeder. But it recently stopped working with Feedly although I am not sure of whether problem is at Feedly end or ReadKit end. So if you are planning to use it to sync with Feedly, you better off wait unitl this is fixed. Developer respond to the issue very slowly, and it has been almost 2 weeks without any knowledge as to whether they will be able to release a fix.

Awesome

Works extremely well as a Reeder replacement — Im a Feedbin subscriber and Readkit works brilliantly with it. Excellent software and support, get it.

Excellent RSS Reader

I own just about every RSS reader out there and I think this one is the best. You’re not limited to only the last 10 or 20 items in a feed. I put in a very large feed url and Readkit gave me tons of items. Also a very clean layout that goes from the item itself on the left, to a summary on the right and then to the actual website if you click on the item - all right within Readkit. Very nice. This is my favorite. Well worth the cost.

Feedly Issues

As best I can tell, marking items read in the app does not mark them as read under Feedly, and marking items read in Feedly does not mark them as read in the app. The end result is a disjointed use between my iOS devices and my Mac… I’ve had to stop using the app as a result...

Update, Please?

I heard good things about this app, and I’m really disappointed with my experience, but I think it’s just due to a bad update. 1) The app “stalls” a lot while going through posts (2-3 second lockups). 2) After rebooting by Mac, I have to start the app 4-5 times to open it (locks up at startup, have to Force Quit). That said, everything else about the app is great. I’d really love a hotkey to send to Instapaper, though...

Awful

Buggy, hacky, completely freezes for five minutes at a time multiple times a day. Not worth one dollar, let alone seven. Uninstalled and won’t be coming back.

An excellent RSS reader, with room to improve.

I’ve been very happy with ReadKit since I bought it, and see it as being a large improvement over Reeder. Here are the things that have stood out at me as being especially good: * Instapaper and Readability integration are baked in, so you can easily pull the full text of an article from feeds that only offer an excerpt. * Good support of pinboard.in * Very nice themes * Good keyboard shortcuts * Uncluttered, easy to use interface * Good feedly support Some room for improvement: * Add a ‘open in readability’ option for right clicking on links. Sometimes RSS feeds have links to articles that I’d like to get directly to reading, rather than sending them in instapaper/readabiilty/etc. * Support for sharing through bitly. These suggestions are just little things that would allow it to more seamlessly integrate into my own workflow, and certainly aren’t reasons to not purchase. If you’re looking for an elegant, full-featured RSS reader that gets out of the way and lets you read your news with an absolute minimum of hassles, ReadKit is the best I’ve found.

Best desktop RSS reader… for now.

I’ve read a few reviews claiming that Readkit is a better desktop RSS client than Reeder and thought it was time to chime in. I was an avid Reeder 1.x user up until Google Reader’s demise. I had it on iPhone, iPad and Mac - and when Feedly was the only game in town, the switch to Readkit was inevitable. Readkit is robust, FAST and well designed, but here’s a list of things it does poorly compared to Reeder (1.x): • There are virtually no gesture controls with a Magic Trackpad or MacBook Trackpad • You cannot download images directly from the window. • The keyboard shortcuts (while customizable) do not match Feedly • There tends to be a lag when switching to different feeds after marking all-is-read and unflagging articles. • Support for pinboard is a little weird - saves links, but as ‘unread.’ But that’s really it - Readkit is still a fantastic RSS client and should be used by everyone with a Feedly account and a Mac. However, Reeder 2.0 is in development, the beta is impressive, and it’s only a matter of time till it’s released on the App Store. For those who don’t want to wait for Reeder (and who knows WHEN it’ll be released) should definitely purchase Readkit right now.

No Multi‑Touch gesture support

That’s really the only thing lacking here.

Errors with Feedly

the design of the application is great, and the reason that make me buy this app is the support of Feedly. but I have some of the problem: - the sync with feedly is not right (if I read something it will not update in feedly account) - it keeps showing to me this error message (The data couldn’t be read because it isn’t in the correct format.) - I contact the devlpoer with no answer until now I will give the app 5 stars if it fully support Feedly.

Crashes

I love the app BUT I hate the fact that it crashes often. I wrote the developers and asked about the cause and what they were doing about it and did not receive a reply. Please fix the crash issues and it would be terrific.

It’s fine, but Reeder 2 is better...

ReadKit is merely OK. My complaints about it are simple. The interface isn’t clean enough, the sharing isn’t good enough, and it’s too slow. It doesn’t commit any of these offenses egregiously but they are noticable.

The Best

I’ve been using ReadKit for a while now and I have to say it’s probably the best desktop RSS client. What it lacks in gesture support and whatnot it makes up for in support for filtering and reliability. I’ve never had ReadKit crash, ever. Filters greatly improve the way I sift through news too. None of the other feed readers out there really stack up when it comes to this. My only gripe is that they don’t have an iOS version.

does not even start (Mavericks)

I downloaded today. When I click it, a message flashes for 0.5 sec, and the app dies. That is all. It does not even start.

Great RSS Client

Just needs built-in syncing, iCloud or some other platform. The app looks so good that I don’t want to use Feedly and some of the others.

Can’t move feeds from one service to another

Great overall, but the Feedly DDoS has exposed a problem with ReadKit. Feedly is down, & with it down, there is no way to access the feeds that I subscribe to through Feedly. I thought I would just be able to move them (without syncing) from Feedly to the built-in ReadKit RSS reader, & then have ReadKit download the latest news, but it’s not possible - I’d need to re-enter the feed URLs for all of them manually. BTW I have never experienced a crash and l *love* the integration with Pinboard and Pocket.

Better functionality than Leaf but poor UI in comparison

I own both Leaf and ReadKit and they are very similar applications. ReadKit stands out for its better support of 3rd party applications including having Pocket articles show up in the main view (pocket client) instead of just having pocket as a destination to save in Leaf. The big problem that I have with ReadKit is its poor UI in comparison. ReadKit does not support images in the list, instead using a very unhelpful favicon that is pretty much the same for every article on a feed. Leaf on the other hand shows an image per story that comes from the article. This is much better as it helps to quickly scan what articles you are actually interested in. It is this plus the UI for the article view that makes me choose Leaf over ReadKit for my RSS reader. If ReadKit were to improve its UI and support article images or Leaf were to support the same clients as Leaf then there would be more of a clean winner in my opinion. For now Ill be using Leaf and letting ReadKit sit on my harddrive unused.

One application for all source I use

I use Feedly, Pinboard, Pocket and Readability and Readkit does all so now Readkit is almost the single place I do all my internet reading. I especially like the customizable keyboard shortcuts. When ready, my hands rarely need to move away from the keyboard.

Beyond the basics

A lot of attention to detail clearly went into the design and the options for customization are far better than other news readers. The wide range of services supported is commendable. I have to view the original site for several of my feeds and the built-in webkit browser is very usable. Hopefully future versions will allow me to move to the next article without leaving the browser mode, but the customaizable keyboard shortcuts help keep the annoyance to a minimum. Also, to download files, I have to command-click on download links to send them to my default browser. It works, but Id love the functionality integrated in ReadKit. Still, its balance of power, ease-of-use, and polish is better than anything else Ive found.

Best RSS application on the MAS.

ReadKit is by far the best all around RSS reader on the Mac App Store. The application allows access to all the major RSS services and syncs your feeds flawlessly. ReadKit also enables the user to add Pocket (and other read it later services) as accounts. Not only can you send articles from your RSS feeds to these services, you can also read the articles saved to Pocket within ReadKit itself. This is a huge feature and a real time saver. The developer of ReadKit is very responsive to emails regarding technical issues & suggestions. I’ve had very few issues with ReadKit; but I have written him with suggestions. He has responded each time I have reached out to him with helpful insights & answers. Combining a great application with a developer who obviously appreciates his customers makes for a very positive experience with this application. My only hope is that one day ReadKit will come to iOS devices so that I can use its features on my iPhone & iPad as well.
